Trojans Shut Out at Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman scored a pair of second half goals and held off Anderson for a 2-0 victory in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action Saturday evening at McCown Field.

C-N withstood a steady attack from the Trojans, as Anderson dominated the statistics, tallying 17 shots to C-N's 10 and held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks, but was unable to find the back of the net. With the setback, Anderson (4-4-1, 0-2 SAC) has dropped two of its last three contests, while Carson-Newman (4-2-1, 2-0 SAC) has won two of its last three.

After a scoreless first half, the Eagles broke the tie in the 71st minute with a goal from Robert Hill on an assist from Ben Backstrom.

C-N then held off Trojans before putting the game away with an empty net goal by Daniel Zitt at the 89:13 mark. Backstrom recorded his second assist of the night on the play.

AU junior standout Lasseweide garnered a team-high five shots, while Clement Samson and Mark Smith recorded four attempts on the afternoon. Sophomore keeper Lukas Hesse posted five saves between the pipes for the Trojans and the Eagles' Jordan Moore collected a career-high 12 saves in picking up the win.

The Trojans are back in action Wednesday when they play host to rival Erskine at Trojan Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. versus the Flying Fleet.
