HIGH POINT, N.C. -- The Anderson University men's soccer team placed a school record five players on the 2008 All-Conference Carolinas team announced Thursday afternoon. Lasse Sohrweide, a freshman forward from Flensburg, Germany; Stephon Henry, a senior midfielder from Kingston, Jamaica; and Lahnden Onger, a senior midfielder from Abilene, Tx., all were named to the first team. Rayon Markland, a junior defender from Bull Bay, Jamaica; and Kevin Valkenburg, a senior foward from Fionn, Holland, both were named to the second team. Entering Friday night's Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinal match against Belmont Abbey at home, Sohrweide, who also was named the league's Freshman of the Year, leads AU in goals scored (11) and points (28) and is second on the team in assists with six. Sohrweide is second in the conference in points per game at 1.56 and third in goals scored. He has scored six game-winning goals. Henry, who has scored one goal this season, is a key player in AU's midfield. Onger has scored four goals and dished out four assists this season. Markland has used his 6-foot-3 frame to anchor AU's back line and as a dangerous weapon on set pieces. Markland has four goals and one assist this season. Valkenburg has combined with Sohrweide to give AU one of the league's most lethal scoring combinations. Valkenburg is second on the team in goals scored with nine and points with 19.
