Men’s Golf Stands 13th Following Opening Round at Tennessee River Rumble

LOUDEN, Tenn. - Led by junior David Wachter's 11-over-par 83, the Anderson University men's golf team finds itself in 13th place following opening-round action at the second annual Tennessee River Rumble Intercollegiate, hosted by Lincoln Memorial at the Tennessee National Golf Club's par 72, 7163 yard layout.

The host Railsplitters (304) lead the two-round tourney by three strokes over Catawba (307) and are five shots ahead of Brevard (309). Anderson (337) trails Lincoln Memorial (C) (335) by two shots and leads Findlay (341) by four strokes.

LMU's Braden Galyon and Catawba's Matt Hardman share the top spot after firing 2-under-par 70s on the day. The duo leads Carson-Newman's Ben Kennard (73) and Tanner Nelson (73) of Walters State by three strokes.

Wachter's first-round effort places him in a six-way tie for 49th, while sophomore Payton Whitlock posted a pair of birdies on the day and shares the 55th spot after carding a 12-over-par 84 on Monday. Freshmen Alex Merriman (85) and Forrest Fowler (85) are tied for 60th, while junior Rob Warren posted a first-round 88 and occupies a share of 73rd.

The Tennessee River Rumble comes to a close with an 18-hole round on Tuesday.
