ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University Director of Athletics Nancy Simpson has announced that Sheri Alexander has joined the Trojan athletic department after recently being named head coach of the AU Cheer team.
"I am delighted that Sheri Alexander has rejoined the AU family," said Simpson. "She was an outstanding leader for our cheer program for nine years, and we are so fortunate that she is returning to that role. I look forward to an exciting future for the cheer program with Sheri at the helm."
Alexander possesses a wealth of experience, with two decades of coaching experience to her credit. The appointment marks her second stint as head coach of the Trojans, after leading the AU Cheer and Dance teams in the same capacity for nine years, from 1998-2007.
As an entrepreneur in the 1990s, Alexander launched and managed Cheer Academy in Piedmont, S.C. for three years, while also coaching a pair of competitive cheer teams.
Alexander has served as a Sales Representative for Varsity Spirit Fashion for nearly 20 years, selling cheer and dance team apparel and recruiting for the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) and the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) camps, competitions and events.
A native of Piedmont, S.C., Alexander attended Wren High School
and earned her bachelors' degree in education from Lander
University. Following graduation, she taught school for five years
in Anderson County District One and has served as cheer coach at
both the middle- and high school levels, capturing two state
championships - one at Wren High School and one at Palmetto High
School - while garnering four state runner-up titles.
