AUGUSTA, Ga. - Augusta State rallied for six runs in the sixth and seventh innings to defeat Anderson, 9-5, in nonconference baseball action Tuesday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

Anderson opened a brief two-game road swing by falling to 8-22 on the season and saw its win streak halted at three, while Augusta State (10-17) snapped a six-game skid and avenged an earlier 13-2 loss at the hands of the Trojans back on Feb. 14 at Memorial Stadium.

The Jaguars scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and garnered a 3-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second frame.

AU took advantage of some defensive lapses by Augusta State to erupt for four runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 4-3 edge, with senior Erick Sanderson sparking the rally by singling up the middle with one out. He moved to second on a wild pitch, while walks to both Steven Cooper and Paul Como loaded the bases for Thomas Goodman, who lifted a fly ball deep enough into left field to score Sanderson for AU's first run.

Following a balk that moved both Cooper and Como to third base and second, respectively, an error allowed both runners to cross the plate and even the score at 3-3. Tony Price then doubled to left, bringing home catcher Jonathan Zalud from second with the go-ahead run.

The Trojans added a solo run in fifth to go ahead 5-3, as AU again capitalized on an error to add to its lead. Freshman Chris Ayers led off with a single to left and moved into scoring position on the hit. Sanderson's fly to right moved Ayers to third when Cooper lofted a one-out fly to center.

But Augusta State countered by posting three doubles in the sixth frame en route to scoring three times and regaining a 6-5 lead, and took a 9-5 lead with three more runs in seventh.

Cooper finished the night 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI, while Price added a hit and an RBI, as well. Sanderson, Ayers, Josh Hickman and Chris Perez each posted a hit on the night.

Freshman Phil Dukes (2-0) relieved ASU starter Clint Echols in the sixth inning. Dukes pitched four innings to close out the game without surrendering a hit.

Stephen McKnight started for the Trojans and went five innings, before Will Walls (0-2) entered and suffered the loss in 1/3 of an inning, giving up three earned runs off four hits.

Anderson returns to action on Wednesday at North Greenville, with first-pitch slated for 3 p.m.
