GAFFNEY, S.C. -- The Anderson baseball team claimed two wins at last week's Conference Carolinas Tournament, then defeated Southern Wesleyan, 12-8, on the road Tuesday night, but dropped its final regular-season contest, 12-7, to Limestone Wednesday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field. Anderson (20-35) hammered three home runs for the fourth time this season, but came up just short against the Saints (13-34), who recorded five home run balls on the day, the first coming in the bottom of the first inning as Drew Lydon delivered a two-run homer to put the Saints up 2-0 after one inning. The Saints would add two runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. Shortstop Thomas Padro came up with a two-out single in the third and scored AU's first run on Blake May's double, but Limestone responded in the bottom of the fourth,, scoring four more runs, the big hit coming in the form of a three-run home run from Josh Troutman. Catcher Brett Scarberry led off the seventh inning with the first homer to get the Trojans their second run and trailing, 11-2, AU rallied for five runs in the top of the eighth inning. Ryan Saxon led off with his 23rd double of the 2010 campaign, setting a new school single-season record. He crossed the plate when Jonathan Romano connected for his fourth home run of the season with two outs. Catcher Brett Scarberry and Corey Frye followed with consecutive base hits and scored on senior Derek Hipp's fifth round-tripper of the year. The Saints would use the long ball again in the bottom of the seventh as Joe Maloney delivered a two-run home run and Troutman would add his second solo home run of the day, pushing the Saints' lead to 11-2 after seven innings of play. Hipp finished the afternoon 3-for-5 with two RBI, as Scarberry added two hits, including the home run. Bryson Graydon suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs in 3 2/3 innings of work.
