Burton and Bruning Named to the AFCU Gold Standard

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University track standout Christopher Burton and women's tennis standout Rebecca Bruning have been named to the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard for their outstanding performances in the month of March.

Burton, a junior, has helped lead the men's track and field team to a No. 41 national ranking by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while winning the men's 100 meter dash at the inaugural Montreat Invitational last Friday in a time of 10.87 and also capturing first place in the 200 meter dash by crossing the finish line in a time of 21.78.

A native of Johnston, S.C., Burton posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time by winning the men's 200 meter dash at the Emory Classic in a time of 21.41, while also notching a provisional qualifying time of 10.76 in the men's 100 meter dash. Prior to opening the Trojans' outdoor schedule, Burton was named to the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Preseason Watch List after earning back-to-back Second-Team All-SAC honors in both 2015 and 2016 in the 100 meters and 200 meters and was a member of AU's 4x100 meter relay squad that earned second-team all-conference recognition last year.

Bruning, a native of Athens, Ga., helped lead the Trojans to a 4-1 record during March and helped to secure a berth in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament in late April.

The senior posted a perfect 5-0 doubles record and went 4-0 on the singles side in late March for the Black and Gold, earning AstroTurf Player of the Week honors for her efforts. Bruning and doubles partner Laura Dean were recently ranked as the No. 7 pairing in the Southeast Region while Bruning was ranked No. 19 in the Southeast Region in singles.

For her career, Bruning holds an overall doubles record of 54-23, including 29-12 in the SAC and an overall singles record of 60-13 and an incredible 34-5 conference tally, becoming one of the winningest women's tennis players in school history.
