Trojans Remain atop Conference Standings with Sweep of LMU

ANDERSON, S.C. – Senior Jayln Knight and junior Emily Conlin each posted double-doubles to help lead the Anderson volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-21) South Atlantic Conference sweep of Lincoln Memorial, Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson improved to 15-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference with its 11th consecutive victory and its' third straight past the Lady Railsplitters. Lincoln Memorial slipped to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the league with its first loss in four outings.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Knight led all players with 16 kills on a .412 hitting percentage and added 11 digs, while sophomore right-side hitter Regan Duty tallied 10 kills. Redshirt freshman Hannah Worsham and sophomore Hailee Wilhelm each added eight kills apiece, with Worsham committing just one attack error in 15 attempts for a .467 hitting percentage. Conlin recorded 37 assists and a team-high 15 digs, with freshman libero Meghan DeVaux tallying 13 digs. Senior Emily Conard notched 12 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
The Trojans hit .448 in the opening frame and snapped an early 4-4 deadlock with an 11-1 scoring outburst to take control of the set. Duty ignite the surge with her first kill of the afternoon, while Knight and Wilhelm fueled the run with a pair of kills and a pair of blocks, respectively.

Moments later, the Lady Railsplitters trimmed AU's lead to single digits (18-12) behind five unanswered points, but Duty slowed LMU's rally with a kill and the Trojans scored six of the set's final eight points to take the double-figure win.

Second Set
The second frame featured five early lead changes and seven ties before Worsham's third kill of the afternoon broke a 10-10 deadlock and gave AU the lead for good.

The Trojans edged out to a five-point advantage twice – the latest at 20-15 – before LMU crept within 23-22 late in the frame. But AU capitalized on an attack error by the 'Splitters and Duty clinched the win with her eighth kill of the match.

Third Set
The Trojans scored the first four points of the set before Lincoln Memorial quickly responded with three straight points of their own.

But AU refused to surrender the lead and doubled up the Lady Railsplitters, 10-5, on a kill by Wilhelm. The Trojans maintained at least a three-point lead until late in the frame, when LMU posted five straight points to get within 21-20.

A serve error gave AU some breathing room, but the Splitters knocked down a kill to again trim AU's advantage to just one before Worsham recorded back-to-back kills and Knight sealed the win with a kill.
