Trojans Drop Hard Fought Road Match at Nationally Ranked Lenoir-Rhyne ; 1-0

Hickory, N.C. – Anderson University women's soccer gave a valiant effort against nationally ranked Lenoir-Rhyne, falling 1-0 on Saturday evening at Bears Field.

With the set-back, the Trojans fall to 7-6 overall and 4-4 in conference action, while the Bears move to 12-2 overall and 7-2 in SAC play.

Lenoir-Rhyne was relentless in its pursuit with the Trojans prepared for the challenge. Despite the 16 shots on goal, AU keeper Madison Paige on relinquished one goal, while being credited for 15 saves on the evening.

The lone goal of the evening came in the 59th minute on a long high shot that was just out of reach of Paige's outstretched hands.

Lenoir-Rhyne outshot Anderson 28 (16) – 9 (5), while also claiming the corner kick edge, 4-2.

BETWEEN THE POSTS

AU'S Madison Paige recorded 15 saves on the evening, keeping the Trojans in the match.

LR's Charlotte Warner was credited with five stops.

"Very proud of the effort the girls displayed tonight against a very good LR team," said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "If we continue to play with this determination and organization we can go far!"

"Madison Paige was fantastic in goal for us and kept us in the game," added coach Jacobs.

NEXT UP

Anderson will host SAC opponent Catawba on Saturday to close out its regular season home matches. Kick-off is slated for 5 p.m.
