Trojans Earn Road Win at Erskine; 2-0

Due West, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer used two second half goals and stingy defense to earn a 2-0 road win at nonconference opponent Erskine on Wednesday night at Huggins Field.

With the win, the Trojans improve to 7-5 overall, while the Flying Fleet fall to 4-7-1 overall.

After a scoreless first half, junior Gabbie Fleming won the ball out in front of the goal, finding an opening to get a solid shot off. Erskine's keeper could not control the shot and sophomore Brooke Penedo punched it past the keeper before a defender could clear (48th minute). Penedo's goal was her first goal of the season and Fleming's second assist on the year.

During the 56th minute of play, senior Melanie Maddox lead the attack by serving a long pass to junior Kirsten Armetta. Armetta settled the ball and drilled a shot to the top shelf from 20 yards out.

The Black and Gold continued to play solid defense the final 34 minutes of the match to shutout the Flying Fleet and win their second match in a row.

Anderson outshot Erskine 12 (6) – 6 (2), while claiming the corner kick edge, 3-0.
