Trojans Outplay Lander in Physical Matchup; 1-0

Anderson, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer outplayed a physical Peach Belt Conference member Lander, 1-0, on Wednesday at the Anderson Civic Center.

With the triumph, the Trojans improve to 3-2 overall, while the Bearcats fall to 2-3 overall.

Lander began the match with a few good looks at the goal, however the Black and Gold remained vigilant in their pursuit scoring just inside the 31st minute of action.

Junior Gabbie Fleming controlled the ball near midfield, serving a pass to forward Kirsten Armetta. Armetta was able to take the pass and punched it past the keeper for the eventual game-winner. Armetta's goal was her third of the season.

Lander narrowly outshot the Trojans 13(7) – 12(8) with each team taking three corner kicks apiece.

BETWEEN THE POSTS

AU'S Madison Paige recorded seven saves on the night, picking up her third win of the season.

Lander's Sarah Owen was credited with six saves on the evening.

COACH'S CORNER

"I am very proud of the effort our team displayed tonight", said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "We capitalized on our chances and battled defensively. Hats off to our backline and Madison Paige earning our first clean sheet of the season against some very good Lander attackers. We will look to bring the same mindset and effort to our next game against Carson-Newman."

NEXT UP

Anderson will return to South Atlantic Conference action when it hosts Carson-Newman on Saturday. Kick-off is slated for 5 p.m.
