Anderson, S.C. – Despite giving up the first goal of the evening, Anderson women's soccer remained poised to earn the, 3-1, victory over South Atlantic Conference opponent Newberry on Wednesday evening at the Anderson Civic Center.
With the win, the Trojans improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference action, while the Wolves fall to 2-1-1 overall and 0-1 in SAC play.
Anderson had a great opportunity to score early, however the awarded penalty kick sailed high to keep the score, 0-0.
Newberry was able to strike first just inside the 22nd minute. Midfielder Jackie Aldrete served a long pass ahead of forward Daphne Heyaime. Heyaime was able to punch the ball in from roughly 20 yards out.
The Trojans evened the score just before half on a successful penalty kick by senior Bethany Morgan.
Junior Gabbie Fleming drilled in the eventual game-winner after receiving a perfectly placed ball from sophomore Brooke Penedo in the 68th minute of action.
The Black and Gold put the match away in the 76th minute after a hard struck ball from junior Kirsten Armetta bounced through the goalie's hands to find the back of the net.
Anderson outshot the Wolves 20(10) - 8( 4) with Anderson winning the corner kick advantage 8-3.

AU'S Madison Paige recorded three saves, picking up her first SAC career win as a Trojan.
Newberry's keeper Delaney Hood was credited with six saves, before being replaced by Jayleen Gant. Gant recorded one save in 13:42 minutes of action.
COACHES CORNER
"I was very proud of the team's fight and happy with their execution", said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "We responded very well to some adversity in the first half and controlled much of the game second-half. It was great to see things we have been working on in practice translate to the game. We will take the positives from this game as we prepare for Wingate on Saturday."
