Women’s Soccer Upends Wingate, 2-0

ANDERSON S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer scored a goal in each half to put away South Atlantic Conference opponent Wingate, 2-0, on Wednesday evening at Trojan Stadium.    

With the victory, Anderson improves to 5-5 overall and 5-1 in SAC play while Wingate falls to 5-5-1 overall and 2-4 in conference action.

Anderson scored in the 19th minute off of a corner kick that freshman Maggie Black was able to head forward to Bethany Morgan who put it away for the 1-0 lead.

The Trojans controlled the flow of the match eventually scoring again in the 75th minute. AU's Kirsten Armetta crossed with Gabbie Fleming coming in on the right side. Fleming connected on the pass drilling the ball past the keeper.

Wingate narrowly outshot Anderson 13(6) – 11 (5) with both teams taking two corner kicks apiece.

Anderson's Abby Helm recorded five saves on the night while Wingate's Abbey Frail was credited with three saves.

The Black and Gold look to remain in the hunt for the SAC Regular Season Title when they host Tusculum on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Trojan Stadium.
