Trojans Claim Top-Spot in First NCAA Southeast Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS - In the first Southeast Region rankings released by the NCAA on Wednesday, Anderson University women's basketball claimed the top-spot, announced by the committee.

South Atlantic Conference rivals, Wingate, was slotted No. 2 in the ranking while Carson-Newman was picked No. 3. Peach Belt Conference leaders, North Georgia, took the No. 4 position sporting a 20-4 overall record with Lander slotted No. 5.

The remaining SAC team to make the poll was Tusculum in the sixth position. The highest ranked Conference Carolinas member, Barton claims the seventh slot while PBC members Clayton State and Flagler are ranked eighth and ninth, respectively. Rounding out the top-10 is CC member Emmanuel with a 15-6 record.

The regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on Wednesdays through March 6, with the NCAA D-II Tournament selections scheduled to be unveiled on Sunday, March 10.

Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large selections.
