Grant Named South Atlantic Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson University junior Kasey Grant has been selected as the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, an award which recognizes excellence in athletics, academics, service and leadership.

The SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards are presented to one male and one female student-athlete in each of the conference's 18 championship sports. The awards are voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee.

Grant is the first student-athlete from Anderson University to receive the SAC Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Grant holds a perfect 4.0 GPA in Biochemistry.

"This is an amazing honor for Kasey, Anderson University Athletics and Anderson University Academics," said head softball coach Tommy Hewitt. "Kasey is an extremely well organized young woman who works diligently and is very reliable. She sets a tremendous example for her peers through her high motivation and her ability to get things done in the classroom and on the field. Kasey has a willingness to be both generous and constant in her applications of time and energy, given any task she takes on. I am so, so proud of Kasey receiving the prestigious honor of being named the South Atlantic Conference Scholar Softball Athlete of the Year."

Grant's additional academic accolades include selections to the Anderson University Dean's List, Gamma Beta Phi, Alpha Chi Honor Society, SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll and SAC Elite 20 Award.

The junior captain, started in all 48 games at second base for the Black and Gold. The native of Comer, Ala., batted .315 with eight doubles, three triples and three home runs while being hit-by-pitch a team-high 11 times.

Grant has served with numerous organizations, including Anderson Cancer Association, NHC Healthcare of Anderson, Anderson SAAC (Student Athlete Advisory Committee) President, Accreditation Committee and Anderson CREDO Committee. Grant is also a member of the FCA and has spoken at a local middle school while also being an active participant with the Anderson Softball Team as they serve in the community throughout the year.

Grant joins women's soccer's Kristin Herbert and women's basketball's Alexis Dillard as Trojan student-athletes who have garnered the accolade this year.
