Anderson Slotted Eighth in the First NCAA Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Anderson University softball team is ranked eighth in the Southeast Region in the NCAA's initial Division II Southeast Region rankings, as released Wednesday afternoon.

Anderson (29-13), which is battling to finish in the top-tier of the South Atlantic Conference, closes out its regular season with a four-game homestand, beginning with nonconference opponent Augusta Thursday afternoon. The Trojans enjoyed a 10-game win streak in March before going 5-3 in the month of April. Anderson is one of four teams from the league making an appearance in the regional rankings, Lenoir-Rhyne (second), Queens (third), Coker (seventh) and Carson-Newman (tenth).

Peach Belt Conference-member North Georgia, ranked second nationally in the latest NFCA Coaches' Poll, heads up the Southeast Region ranking while Lenoir-Rhyne grabs the second spot. The Bears are also ranked No. 11 in the NFCA Coaches' Poll. Fellow SAC-member Queens is ranked third and landed No. 23 nationally while PBC-member Georgia College falls in the fourth slot. Conference Carolina-member Limestone sits in the fifth position while PBC-member Young Harris landed sixth.

Coker is seventh in the poll, with Anderson claiming the eighth slot. CC-member North Greenville sits in the ninth spot while Carson-Newman rounds out the top-10.

The NCAA's regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on Wednesday.

In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, with five more at-large selections.
