ANDERSON, S.C.-The Anderson University softball team split a South Atlantic Conference game with Lincoln Memorial winning game one, 4-3, and dropping the nightcap, 4-2, Wednesday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

Anderson moves to 25-11 overall and 7-5 in SAC play while the Railsplitters move to 20-16 overall and 3-7 in conference action.

Game #1

Anderson 4, Lincoln Memorial 3

Courtesy of two Trojan home runs, Anderson jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings of play.

Following back-to-back walks, sophomore Mattie Hamilton hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first. Senior Cailah Niles tacked on another run in the bottom of the second on a line drive home run over right center.

The Black and Gold's bats cooled down only collecting one hit over the next four innings of play.

Lincoln Memorial rallied in the top half of the fourth inning to come within a run, 4-3. After committing two errors and giving up four hits in the innings, the Trojans settled down and held on for a one-run victory.

Anderson's Harlie Duncan (11-3) had a solid outing pitching a complete game. Duncan gave up five hits while striking out seven Railspitters.

Lincoln Memorial's Justice Smith (11-6) gave up six hits while walking four and striking out five

Game #2

Lincoln Memorial 4, Anderson 2

The Railspitters jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the third inning.

Anderson got a run back in the bottom of the third on Niles's second home run of the day. LMU offset the home run by hitting on of their own in the top of the fifth. Anderson made some noise in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring one-run while leaving the bases loaded.

Lincoln Memorial shut the Trojans down over the final two innings to claim the 4-2 win.

Senior Randee Bettis (6-4) toed the rubber in game two. Bettis gave up three hits and three runs in 2.1 innings pitched. Freshman Kayla Pepper replaced Bettis in the top of the third inning with one out. Pepper struck out the side to get out of the jam. Pepper pitched 4.2 innings giving up two hits while striking out five.

Lincoln Memorial's Brianna Taylor (9-9) went the distance giving up seven hits.

NOTABLES

• Niles batted 2-for-5 on the day with two home runs.
• Junior Kasey Grant was 4-for-6 on the day with four singles and a run scored.
• Freshman Khloe Saunders batted 1-for-2 in game one.

Anderson remains on its home turf to square off with SAC foe Catawba on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 1p.m.
