Erskine Sweeps Trojans Earning a Point Toward the Beville Cup

DUE WEST, S.C. The Anderson University softball team suffered its first doubleheader sweep of the season dropping game one, 3-1 (8 innings) while falling in the nightcap, 3-0 on Friday afternoon at Erskine Softball Field.

Also, up for grabs was a coveted Beville Cup point. After today's competition, AU leads 5.5 to 4.5.

GAME #1

INSIDE THE BOX

Sophomores Meghan Majeski, Mattie Hamilton, and Ali Anderson and senior Rachael Barefield each collected one hit apiece for the Trojans.

Anderson's Kayla Pepper (4-3) suffered the tough loss pitching 7.1 innings. Pepper allowed three hits while walking three and striking out three for the Black and Gold.

Erskine's Morgan Hendrix picked up her fifth win of the year pitching 8.0 innings. Hendrix gave up four hits while striking out nine Trojans.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Flying Fleet used a lead-off walk to produce a run. Anderson answered back in the top of the fifth after pinch runner Khloe Saunders scored from first on a throwing error.

Neither team could bust the tie forcing extra innings. Erskine was able to retire our top-three hitters in order.

Erskine's senior Sydney Smith drilled the game-winning walk-off home run in the bottom half of the eighth inning.

GAME # 2

Anderson 0, Erskine 3

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Leading the Trojans at the plate, was junior Joslyn Martin going 2-for-3 while sophomore Ali Anderson went 1-for-2.

Senior Randee Bettis (4-2) got the nod in game two for the Trojans pitching 5.0 innings, giving up six hits and three runs. Freshman Harlie Duncan pitched the final inning giving up zero hit while striking out two.

Erskine's Hendrix (6-3) toed the rubber in game two pitching a complete game shut-out allowing six hits while striking out four.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Erskine scored two runs in the bottom of the second tacking on one in the fourth to set the final score at 3-0.

UP NEXT

The Trojans host Winston-Salem on Wednesday for a nonconference match-up. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
