Trojans Split Road Doubleheader with No.18 Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C.-The Anderson University softball team split a nonconference doubleheader against No. 18 Pfeiffer losing game one 8-2, while winning the nightcap, 7-0 Thursday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field.

NOTES
• The Trojans move to 17-5 on the year.
• With the split, the Falcons move to 16-2 overall record.

NOTABLES
• Junior Trudi Shuman batted 2-for-3 on the day while scoring one run for the Trojans.
• Sophomore Breanna Hagerty batted 2-for-4 with two RBI.
• Freshman Meghan Majeski batted 2-for-5 with three walks and two runs scored.
• Senior Augie Pena collected three hits on the day for the Black and Gold.
• Junior Cailah Niles recorded three hits and two RBI while scoring a run.
• Senior Courtney Czentnar had a hit in each game resulting in two RBI and a run scored.

PITCHING
Getting the nod in game one was junior Randee Bettis (5-2) collecting her second loss of the season. Bettis had a tough first inning walking the first two batters, giving up three hits (single, double and a homerun). After the Trojans retired the third out of the inning, the Falcons crossed the plate four times. Bettis stayed on and pitch four total inning before being lifted in favor of senior Lauren Rudesheim. Rudesheim faced six batters allowing no hits and no runs in two innings of work.

Pfeiffer's Kiana Millsaps pitched 3.1 inning giving up five hits and two runs. Kennedy Lester enter the game with a win opportunity pitching 3.2 innings giving up three hits and no runs to earn her fourth win of the season.

GAME 1
Anderson 2, No. 18 Pfeiffer 8

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Anderson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with the Trojans taking advantage of two walks and two singles in the inning.
• Pfeiffer was able to answer right back using two walks and three hits to take a 4-1 lead after one inning of play.
• Neither team plated a run in the second or third innings.
• The Trojans were able to get a run back in the top of the fourth with Niles fielder's choice scoring Shuman from third, 4-2.
• Again, the Falcons had an answer tallying four more runs in the bottom half of the fourth to push the lead to 8-2.
• The final three innings were played scoreless with Anderson leaving five runners on base during that span.

GAME 2
Anderson 7, No. 18 Pfeiffer

HOW IT HAPPENED
• AU hurler Pena held the Falcons scoreless for the game allowing just three hits while striking out five.
• For the Falcons, C. Christian was rolling through the Black and Gold lineup giving up the first hit in the top of the fifth inning while striking out eight Trojans through the fifth frame.
• Anderson exploded for five runs in the top of the sixth using five hits and three errors to claim a 5-0 lead.
• The Trojans were able to tack on two more run in the top of the seventh inning. Niles reach on an one out single advancing to second with a base on balls to freshman Mattie Hamilton. With two outs, Hagerty ripped a single to left field scoring two Trojans to set the final score at 7-0.

PITCHING
Pena (7-1) picked up her seventh win of the season scattering three hits while striking out five.

For the Falcons, Christian (4-2) suffered her second loss of the season after pitching four inning of hitless ball. Christian was lifted after facing two batters in the sixth inning with Sydney Poole and Kaitlin MacMillan each pitching one inning.

UP NEXT
• Anderson returns home to host its rival Erskine on Thursday, Mar. 9. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 4:30 p.m.
