Softball Wins Two at Home Against Johnson C. Smith

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson softball team used a total of 24 hits to score 21 runs on its way to defeating nonconference CIAA opponent Johnson C. Smith winning game one, 10-2, and claiming the nightcap, 11-3, on Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

Anderson moves to 11-1 overall while Johnson C. Smith falls to 1-6 on the young season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Nine different Trojans picked up at least one hit with junior Cailah Niles going 2-for-3 along with freshmen Meghan Majeski and Mattie Hamilton. Hamilton hit a double and a single while scoring two runs and driving in one. Junior Trudi Shuman went 1-for-1 with a sacrifice fly and a RBI.

Junior right-hander Randee Bettis (4-0) collected her fourth win of the season after giving up just two hits while striking out eight.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Anderson jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second using five hits, an error and a walk. Hamilton and Hagerty each doubled in the inning.

Johnson C. Smith responded in the top of the third inning with a solo home run to cut into the lead. AU's Bettis was able to get the Golden Bulls next two batters to pop up and a strikeout to end the inning.

The Black and Gold added a run in the bottom of the third while exploding for five runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Anderson sent nine batters to the plate with six recording a hit.

Johnson C. Smith's Victoria Lopez (1-2) suffered her second loss of the season giving up 12 hits on the day.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Niles collected two more hits in game two going 2-for-3 with one RBI. Sophomores Kasey Grant and Michaela Smith each picked up two hits in the nightcap with Grant hitting her second double of the season. Hamilton went 1-for-1 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Senior Lauren Rudesheim (4-1) picked up her fourth win of the year and 50th of her career. The all-time Trojan career win leader, gave up four hits while striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Johnson C. Smith led after the first half of the inning, 1-0. Anderson struck right back scoring two runs in the first to take a 2-1 lead.

The Golden Bulls pulled ahead in the top half of the third inning with two runs scored, 3-2. The Trojans again responded in the bottom of the third by breaking the game open with five runs scored. Senior Courtney Czentnar and freshman Ali Anderson each ripped a double to center to give the Black Gold a total of 24 doubles on the year.

Anderson tacked on a run in the fifth while scoring two in the sixth. AU's Hamilton led off the inning by being hit by a pitch then advancing to second on an infield hit by Hagerty. Anderson drilled a double to left center scoring both Hamilton and Hagerty to end the game.

The Golden Bulls Tasia Bolling (0-4) was tagged with the loss giving up 12 hits while walking three batters.

Through just 12 games, the Trojans have equaled last season's total of 26 stolen bases. Anderson is currently 26-of-26 in that department.

NOTABLES

-Senior hurler Lauren Rudesheim recorded her 50th career win as a Trojan.

-On the day, Hamilton batted 3-for-4 scoring four runs and driving in three.

UP NEXT

The Trojans hit the road tomorrow for a nonconference contest against Peach Belt opponent Georgia College. The first pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m.
