Trojans Earn All-Region Recognition

NEW ORLEANS – Track and Field standouts Katharine Landry and Olivia Rish, along with Philip Quillen have earned All-Southeast Region accolades, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned the All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top three relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – match those used during the cross country season.

For the Trojan women, Landry earned the honor for her performances in the heptathlon, while Rish claimed the recognition for her efforts in the 1,500 meters.

Landry finished first in the shot put and finished second in the javelin throw en route to claiming the runner-up spot in the heptathlon at the conference championships, while Rish claimed third place in the 1,500 meters in a personal best time of 4:45.38.

Quillen, who brought home the all-region honor for his times in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, won the event at the South Atlantic Conference Championships in a career-best time of 9:34.80 back in mid-April.

A total of 1831 honors were handed out to USTFCCCA member institutions, which included 926 to men's programs and an additional 905 to women's programs.

No program earned more combined All-Region honors than Grand Valley State. The Lakes brought home a total of 61 All-Region nods with the women accounting for 39 of them.

Angelo State tallied the second most combined All-Region honors with 46, followed by Southern Connecticut State with 42. Lee University had 39, while Mount Olive and West Texas A&M each brought home 38.

No conference took home more All-Region honors than the Northeast-10 with 185. It was a close battle for second between both the Lone Star Conference (145) and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (144).
