Track and Field Wraps up Southern Wesleyan’s Susan Rouse Invitational with Impressive Marks

CENTRAL, S.C. – The Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams closed out Southern Wesleyan's Susan Rouse Invitational by winning three events and claiming top-10 finishes in 14 additional events on Saturday.

Senior JoLyn Copeland claimed sixth place in the women's discus throw with a toss of 33.74 meters and finished 11th in the women's shot put with a distance of 10.19 meters, while senior Madison Seay claimed second place in the women's 400 meter hurdles.

Sophomore Olivia Rish led five Trojans in the women's 1,500 meters by crossing the finish line in third place in a time of 4:59.98, with classmate Olivia Evans claiming fourth place in a time of 5:00.33. Sophomore Hannah Beach (5:02.70), sophomore Lydia Gambrell (5:12.17) and junior Emily Olson (5:38.43) finished fifth, 10th and 18th, respectively.

On the men's side, sophomore Robert Jones, who was fourth following Friday's five events, won the decathlon following five events.

Senior Anthony Aleruchi won the men's discus throw with a toss of 44.23 meters, with sophomore Connor Wheatley claiming 10th place with a distance of 33.10 meters. Aleruchi (12.15 meters) finished sixth in the shot put, with Wheatley (11.51 meters) and freshman Evan Francis (11.30 meters) finishing seventh and ninth, respectively.

Sophomore Cameron Owens-Hunter won the men's 1,500 meters in a time of 4:06.03, with freshman Noah McLain crossing the finish line in ninth place in a time of 4:20.60. Sophomore Weston Hutto (4:24.58), freshman Thomas Sutcliffe (4:25.67) and freshman Brandon Wilson (4:29.43) finished 12th, 13th and 16th, respectively. Sophomore Hayden Tuten finished 17th in a time of 4:31.64, with sophomore David Rolon claiming 18th place in a time of 4:33.04.

Sophomore Philip Quillen claimed second place in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:40.19. unior Jordan Anderson finished fourth in the men's 400 meters in a time of 49.87 and also claimed fourth place in the 200 meters in a time of 22.46. Freshman Matthew Hobbs was 19th in a time of 23.72.

The Trojans will get back in action on Saturday at the USC Open in Columbia, S.C.
