Men’s Soccer Falls to Newberry; 3-1

Anderson, S.C. - Anderson men's soccer dropped its opening South Atlantic Conference match, 3-1, versus Newberry on Wednesday evening at the Anderson Civic Center.

With the setback, the Trojans fall to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in SAC play, while the Wolves improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in conference action.

Newberry scored in the 17th minute of action off of Eric Brody's free kick. Brody placed the ball just in front of the goal with teammate Troy Paul heading it to the far post to put the Wolves up, 1-0.

The Trojans evened the score in the 63rd minute after a hard cross was misplayed by a Newberry defender and was kicked into their own goal.

Just four minutes later, the Wolves scored the eventual game-winner after Liam Marolany steadied a loose ball and punched it to the back of the net.

Newberry's Ibrahim Nadir sealed the match in the 84th minute when he dribbled in from the side and kicked a high ball just over the head of AU keeper Gal Elyashiv.

Anderson outshot Newberry 21(9) – 12(7), with corner kicks holding even at 6-6.

Wolves keeper Leroy Zeller was credited with eight saves on the night.

Anderson will travel to South Atlantic Conference foe Wingate on Saturday. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
