Men’s Soccer Wins Third Straight; Defeat Nighthawks, 1-0

Greenville, S.C. - Anderson men's soccer scored the lone goal of the match in the 74th minute to defeat Peach Belt Conference opponent North Georgia,1-0, on Saturday evening at the Legacy Early College Field.

With the victory, the Trojans improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Nighthawks fall to 1-2-1 overall.

Despite drilling 10 previous shots on target, prior to the game-winner, the Trojans were able to finally find the back of the net after a perfectly placed ball on a free kick by senior Jhon Vacca. Vacca chipped the ball to the six yard box connecting with sophomore Shalev Keter. Keter headed the ball home for the game winner in the 74th minute of action.

Anderson outshot North Georgia 18(11) – 13(3), with North Georgia holding the slight 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.

AU'S Gal Elyashiv recorded three saves, recording his third win of the season.

Nighthawks keeper Luis Lepervanche was credited with 10 saves on the night.

"Good win against a tough team tonight, said head coach Michael Zion. "In the end, I thought our persistence got us the result. Next week, we begin conference play and we will look to use this momentum as we move forward."

Anderson will host South Atlantic Conference opponent Newberry on Wednesday to open up league play. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
