Trojans Persevere Past Bulldogs; 3-1

 

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University men's soccer team put aside the tough weather conditions and a few tough matches of late to persevere past South Atlantic Conference opponent Wingate, 3-1, on Wednesday evening at Trojan Stadium.  

With the triumph, the Trojans move to 3-4-2 overall and 2-2-2 in SAC action while the Bulldogs fall to 5-4-1 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

Anderson used an early goal in the 8th minute to gain the momenteum. Graduate student Lars Kaula capped off a pentalty kick to put the Trojans ahead, 1-0.

In the 20th minute, senior Gabriel Homem took a pass from Lucas Mostajo and pushed the ball past the keeper to give the Black and Gold a 2-0 advantage.

Wingate battled the entire match finally finding the back of the net in the 65th minute of action to cut the lead in half.

Wingate outshot the Trojans 22(9) – 14 (8) while Anderson owned the corner kick advantage, 6-1.

Anderson's keeper Gal Elyashiv and the Trojan defense kept the Bulldogs in check with outstanding play. Elyashiv recorded eight saves on the evening.

AU's Jhon Vaca put the match out of reach scoring on a direct kick from around the 18 that bent just inside the far corner.

The Black and Gold's win snapped a three-match losing streak to the Bulldogs.

Anderson remains at home on Saturday to host SAC foe Tusculum. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
