Men's Soccer Team Sinks Fleet, 2-1

ANDERSON, S.C. - Conor Dowler scored on a penalty kick and Jaime Henao scored six minutes into the second half to lead Anderson College to a 2-1 victory over Erskine in a CVAC match Tuesday night at Smethers Field. Anderson, 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the CVAC, dominated play until the final minute. The Flying Fleet, 0-7-1 and 0-4-1, broke up the shutout at the 88:55 mark on a header by Andres Torres off a corner kick by Oscar Mazo. Anderson goalkeeper Alex Jenkins, who made two saves, had to make a diving save in the closing seconds to seal the Anderson victory. Anderson outshot Erskine, 30-4, but Fleet goalkeeper Jess Kraay made seven saves to keep Erskine in the match. Kraay made three brilliant saves in the first 10 minutes to set the tone for the match. Anderson finally broke through at 33:12 when Josh Nguyen was tripped in the box to set up a penalty kick. Dowler converted for his eighth goal of the season to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead. Anderson's second goal came at the 50:48 mark when Wrenel Roberts fired a low pass from the left wing that Henao knocked into the back of the Fleet net for what proved to be the game winner. The victory was worth three points for Anderson in the AC-Erskine Cup Sponsored By ARAMARK competition. Coupled with the three points earned by the Anderson women's soccer team, AC now leads the annual competition with Erskine, 6-3. Season Statistics
