Lander Rallies To Beat Anderson, 3-1

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Luke Ibbetson scored twice in a span of 21 seconds early in the second half as the No. 22 ranked Lander men's soccer team rallied from a one-goal halftime deficit to defeat Anderson College 3-1 Wednesday night in a non-conference match. The Bearcats improved to 5-1, while the Trojans fall to 2-3. Anderson took a 1-0 lead with 19:23 left in the first half when freshman forward Dylan Perry scored off an assist from freshman midfielder Blake Jackson. It remained 1-0 at halftime. Ibbetson was pulled down in the box and was awarded a penalty kick, which he nailed over the goalkeeper's right shoulder to tie the match at 1-1 with 36:42 left in the second half. The sophomore forward scored just 21 seconds left off an assist from junior midfielder Carlos Lozano to give Lander a 2-1 lead. It was Ibbetson's 14th goal of the season. The Trojans played the final 33:39 one man down after Wrenel Roberts received a red card. Junior midfielder Antii Suoniemi scored an insurance goal with 16:47 left in the game off an assist from junior forward Chiddy Mgbor. Lander outshot Anderson 15-7 and had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. AC goalkeeper Alex Jenkins had six saves. The Bearcats started Martin Petrov in goal and he had three saves. Ryan Peck replaced Petrov in goal in the second half and had one save. Season Statistics
