SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – Led by junior Drake McAlister's two-day, 4-over-par 146, the Anderson University men's golf team trimmed four strokes off Monday's opening round and finished in a tie for sixth at the Myrtle Beach Invitational Tuesday.
The 36-hole tournament was hosted by Lincoln Memorial at the par-71 6,709 yard, Lion's Paw Course at Ocean Ridge Plantation.
The host Railsplitters (279-289=568) led the tournament wire-to-wire and edged runner-up Lenoir-Rhyne (290-280=570) by just two strokes, with Barton (290-288=578) finishing third out of the 15-team field. North Greenville (294-290=584) and Limestone (295-289=584) were six shots further back and shared fourth place. Anderson (302-298=600) and Belmont Abbey (304-296=600) finished in a tie for sixth, while Mount Olive (313-288=601) moved up to claim eighth place. Virginia Union (303-300=603) slipped two slots to ninth place.
Tusculum (306-300=606), Cape Fear Community College (304-305=609), Emmanuel (305-310=615), Virginia-Wise (313-310=623), Chowan State (339-313=652) and Fayetteville State (351-330=681) finished out the field.
Lincoln Memorial's Dan Bradbury (68-68=136) took home individual medalist honors after edging teammate Sam Broadhurst (71-68=139) and Lenoir-Rhyne's Brad Robinson (70-69=139) by three shots.
McAlister carded three birdies for the second straight round and finished with a two-day 146 to finish tied for 15th. Junior Jake Miller recorded a pair of birdies for the second consecutive day and posted a two-round, 5-over-par 147 and finished in a five-way tie for 18th. Sophomore Colt Martin slashed five strokes off his opening-round effort (79-74=153) and tied for 41st place.
Sophomore Cal Brock fired a two-day 154 and finished tied for 47th, with senior Grayson Bell posting a total 158 for the tourney and sharing 61st place.
Following a two-week layoff, the Trojans are slated to wrap up their fall schedule at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate. The two-day tourney will be hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne at the Mimosa Hills Golf Club.
