Jackson Strange and Dillon Carpenter Earn Academic All-District Honors

ANDERSON, S.C. – After helping lead the Trojans to their second straight appearance and fourth appearance in six seasons in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament, Anderson University baseball standouts Jackson Strange and Dillon Carpenter have been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Team, as announced late Thursday afternoon.

The teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Strange, a two-time Academic All-District honoree, drew a starting nod in all 51 games this season, while standing second on the team in runs scored and third in walks. He posted 10 multi-hit games on the season and recorded an eight-game hitting streak in February.

The Greenville, S.C., native notched six multiple-RBI games and was tied for fourth on the squad in both home runs and doubles.

A senior, Strange majored in mathematics/actuarial science with a 3.84 GPA and will attend Wake Forest to pursue a master's degree in business.

Carpenter, who will be a redshirt senior next season, battled through injuries this season to start 30 contests and led the team in both batting average and slugging percentage. The Charlotte, N.C., native was second on the squad in RBI, third in home runs and fourth in total hits, while posting 14 multiple-hit games and notched two five-game hitting streaks and a pair of four-game hitting streaks.

The first baseman recorded five multi-RBI games and reached base safely in 11 straight games during February and March. Carpenter will earn his bachelor's degree in business/marketing and carries a 3.70 GPA.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (when selected) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.

The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
