Trojans Open Four-Game Homestand by Knocking off Emmanuel

ANDERSON, S.C. – Sophomore Dillon Carpenter and junior Brandon Odachowski combined for six hits and four RBI to help lead Anderson to a 10-6 win over Emmanuel in nonconference baseball action, Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson snapped a six-game slide and improved to 3-6 on the season, while Emmanuel fell to 5-5 with its fourth consecutive loss.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Carpenter was 3-for-5 on the afternoon and belted his first home run of the season – a three-run shot beyond the right-field fence in the second inning – and added an RBI-double and a single. The Charlotte, N.C., native drove in four runs on the day and scored twice. Odachowski ripped three doubles, while scoring once and driving in a run. Senior Tyler Miller was 2-for-4, with a pair of singles, two RBI and also drew a fourth-inning walk. Junior Jackson Strange posted a double and a single in five at-bats, with sophomore Joseph Strange posting two singles in five trips to the plate. Matthew Overton reached base four times with three walks and a double.

Senior right-hander Matthew Reitz earned his first win of the season with 1 2/3 innings of relief, while allowing one hit and one walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning, the Trojans sent 11 batters to the plate and capitalized on six hits, including five for extra bases, and a pair of walks to erupt for seven runs in the second frame. Miller sliced a two-run single through the right side with two outs and Carpenter followed with his three-run homer that gave AU an early 7-0 advantage.

But the Lions chipped away with a run in the fourth inning and scored three times in the fifth to trim the Trojans lead to three. Emmanuel added solo runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to creep back within 7-6, before the Trojans nearly batted around again in the bottom of the eighth and added three insurance runs.

The seven extra-base hits (six doubles and a home run) were the most by the Trojans this season.

The Trojans welcome South Atlantic Conference-foe Lenoir Rhyne to Anderson Memorial Stadium for a three-game weekend series, beginning Friday. First-pitch versus the Bears is set for 6 p.m.
