ANDERSON, S.C. – Behind stellar pitching in the opener, the Anderson University baseball team split a nonconference doubleheader with King, Saturday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium.

The Trojan pitching staff allowed just three hits over nine innings and shut out the Tornado, 2-0, in the first game of the afternoon, while King turned the tables in the nightcap with a 4-0 victory.

Anderson moved to 2-1 on the early season, while King ended the weekend with a 1-2 record.

Anderson 2, King 0
Freshman Chandler Castleberry notched a double and a walk in the opener, while sophomore Matthew Overton recorded a pair of walks and scored one of the two Trojan runs. Freshman Will Lindsey reached on a walk and scored the other run. Freshman Tyler Berry reached base on a single and a walk and drove in a run.

Junior Will Gee posted a gem on the mound in his first outing with the Trojans, as the Blackville, S.C., native captured the win after surrendering just three hits and no runs in seven innings of work. The right-hander struck out eight and walked just one. Sophomore Coby Smith tossed an inning of relief, while walking one and striking out one. Junior Matthew Stanley earned the save after working the ninth inning in relief and fanning two batters.

Game #2
King 4, Anderson 0
Castleberry added a walk and a single in the nightcap, with freshman Chase Stephens going 1-for-3 with a fifth-inning single. Seniors William Thomas and Tyler Miller each posted a single.

Sophomore right-hander Austin Todd absorbed the loss after allowing four runs on six hits over four innings of work. He struck out five and walked just one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
Overton drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the second inning and crossed the plate with the first run of the game on Berry's single back up the middle.

Lindsey opened the bottom of the eighth inning with a walk and later crossed the plate on a passed ball to give the Trojans an insurance run.

Game 2
The Tornado posted solo runs in the first and third innings and added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth frame.

The Trojans managed to get a pair of runners on base in the first, third and sixth innings, but were unable to push any runs across the plate.

UP NEXT
The Trojans play host to North Greenville, Tuesday afternoon and wrap up the five-game homestand when Young Harris invades Memorial Stadium for a 6 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday.
