Former Standout Landon Beck Promoted to Double-A Springfield

ANDERSON, S.C. – After opening the season with (Class-A Advanced) Palm Beach of the Florida State League, former Trojan baseball standout Landon Beck was promoted over the weekend and tossed well Monday night in his debut with the Springfield Cardinals, the Double-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Beck allowed a pair of hits, but did not surrender a run in his first appearance, as Springfield opened an eight-game homestand Monday night with a 7-2 win over the Tulsa Drillers. Springfield is currently tied for first place in the Texas League North, alongside Northwest Arkansas.

Beck began this season as one of the hurlers on the Palm Beach roster and was promoted after earning seven saves in 13 appearances. While with Palm Beach, the Hartwell, Ga. native was 0-1, while leading the pitching staff in both appearances and saves. He posted a 3.77 ERA and surrendered just six earned runs on 15 hits in 14 1/3 innings of work, while fanning 13 batters and issuing only five walks.

The Springfield (Mo.) Cardinals play at Hammons Field and began play in 2005 after St. Louis moved its Double-A affiliation from the Tennessee Smokies in Sevierville, Tenn.

Beck began his professional career with the Johnson City Cardinals in the Coastal Plains League and worked his way up to the New York-Penn League's State College Spikes before moving to Peoria in August, 2015. He was promoted to Palm Beach in May, 2016.

He owns the school record for strikeouts in a single season with 90, which he set during the 2014 campaign.
