ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University men’s and women’s tennis head coach Joey Eskridge recently competed in the 2018 Senior Cup in Huntsville, Ala.

The event was played June 1-3 and consisted of over 300 players in team competition for men and women’s 35’s through 75’s with two singles and one doubles match. The players included former collegiate All-Americans, NCAA champions and professional players. Eskridge was representing the Palmetto State in the Men’s 45 age group for the second year.

Eskridge played number one doubles with Phil Whitesell from Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The last time Eskridge and Whitesell teamed up together they won a National Championship at the 5.5 level in Las Vegas, Nev. in 2005.

In the first round of action team South Carolina beat Alabama 2-1, in the second round South Carolina beat Arkansas 3-0 and in the finals the Palmetto State shut out North Carolina 2-0.

Paired with solid singles play by teammate Martin Zumph the Palmetto State captured enough points to win the team title.

Eskridge will be entering his eleventh season with the Trojans and is four wins shy of a combined 250 total wins at the helm of the men’s and women’s programs.
