Jankowy and Benard Named to the AFCU Gold Standard

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University men's and women's basketball standouts Heather Jankowy and Shawn Benard have been named to the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard for their outstanding performances in the month of December.

Jankowy, a senior, averaged 14.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest for the month of December, highlighted by a 24-point career-high outing against South Atlantic foe Newberry at the Abney Center on Dec. 10.

For the month, Jankowy shot 23-44 (.523) from the floor, 14-30 (.467) and a near perfect 11-12 (.917) from the free throw line.

The Walhalla, S.C. native's 14 3-pointers and 10 assists during the month of December moved Jankowy into a tie for the sixth spot for all-time 3-pointers made (252) while moving into the seventh slot for career assists (166).

Jankowy's outstanding play helped lift the Trojans to a 4-1 record for the month and an 8-2 overall record on the young season.

Benard, a native of Mobile, Ala., averaged 16.0 points, three assists and 2.4 rebounds off the bench in the Trojans' five games. The 5-foot-11 guard reached double figures in the final four contests of the month, while leading the team by shooting 64.3 percent (27-of-42) from the field and pacing the Trojans by going 22-of-28 (78.6 percent) from the free throw line.

He totaled 50 points in two contests – pouring in a career-high 25 points in just 24 minutes of action against the Cobras, then matched the career-best effort with 25 points off the bench against the Indians. He was nearly perfect in Hartsville, going 8-of-9 from the field and was a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line. He was 9-of-15 from the field three days later against Catawba, including a 3-for-5 effort from beyond the arc.

Each month, one male and one female student-athlete or teams are honored as the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard Performers of the Month for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
