Du Plooy and Conlin Named to the AFCU Gold Standard

ANDERSON, S.C. – Men's soccer standout Brad Du Plooy and volleyball freshman Emily Conlin have been named to the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard for their outstanding performances in the month of September.

Du Plooy, a Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference honoree, began the month by scoring a goal in a 2-1 road win at Lees-McRae while following up with an assist against Flagler to help the Trojans win at home and move to 2-0 on the season. Du Plooy's stellar play for the week earned the senior from South Africa AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week accolades.

Du Plooy continued his great play as the Trojans traveled to Shorter, where Du Plooy scored the game winner in a 1-0 match. With the victory, the Black and Gold moved to a perfect 3-0 on the season.

Through the month of September, Du Plooy started seven-of-eight matches and missing start number eight due to an injury. In seven starts, Du Plooy scored three goals on 11 shots with five coming on goal and has been credited with two assists.

Conlin, a freshman from Glendale, Ariz., has posted five double-doubles this season and leads the South Atlantic Conference in both assists (589) and assists per set (9.82) after dishing out a career–best 60 assists in last week's win over Tusculum. The 60 assists equaled the ninth-highest total for a single match in program history. The native of Glendale, Ariz., has recorded at least 30 assists on a dozen occasions this season and is on pace to reach the top-10 in the school record books for assists in a single season.

In early September, Conlin became the first Trojan volleyball player to earn AstroTurf SAC Specialist of the Week since former conference Player of the Year Hailey Pittman garnered the honor in late October, 2014.

Helped by Conlin's stellar play, the Trojans are bidding to become the first AU squad to open the season with a 7-2 conference record since joining the SAC for the 2010 campaign. .

Each month, one male and one female student-athlete or teams are honored as the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard Performers of the Month for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
