Trojan Volleyball Tabbed Third in NCAA Southeast Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Anderson University volleyball team is ranked third in the Southeast Region in the NCAA's initial Division II Southeast Region rankings of the season, as released Wednesday afternoon.

Wingate (20-2), which is receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) Poll, heads up the first of three regional rankings. The Bulldogs are second in the South Atlantic Conference standings, one game behind the Trojans. USC Aiken is atop the Peach Belt Conference with a 22-3 overall record and captured the second spot in the rankings. Anderson (21-3) is alone in first place in the SAC standings and is riding a 17-match win streak, while garnering the third slot in the NCAA rankings. With four games remaining in the regular season, the Trojans hold the one-game edge over Wingate in the league standings.

Queens is 18-5 overall and is fourth in the rankings, while Flagler, which toppled USC Aiken last weekend, is fifth with a 17-3 mark. Georgia College (18-5), Carson-Newman (14-11), Lander (15-8), Augusta (16-12) and Tusculum (14-13) round out the 10 teams in the poll.

Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large selections.

The three regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on Wednesdays through November 15, with the NCAA D-II Tournament selections scheduled to be unveiled on Monday, Nov. 20.

The Trojans play host to Carson-Newman and Lincoln Memorial in a pair of SAC contests this weekend, beginning with the Eagles on Friday. First-serve versus Carson-Newman is slated for 7 p.m. at the Abney Athletic Center.
