Women’s Track and Field Finishes Ninth at SAC Indoor Championships; Men Claim 11th Place

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Anderson University women's and men's track and field teams finished ninth 11th, respectively, at the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships, Sunday at the JDL Fast Track indoor track and field facility.

The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's teams both took home the titles. The Royals' women scored 188 team points to finish first, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne with 134 and then Wingate finished third with 91.

In the men's meet, the Royals scored 184 points, with Lenoir-Rhyne in second with 131 and Carson-Newman in third with 112.

Individually, 22 events were completed on the day with 11 of those ending in new SAC Indoor Championship records

AU's Olivia Rish finished ninth in the finals of the women's mile in a time of 5:24.75, while Kamryn Osterbind posted a time of 2:25.95 in the women's 800 meter finals and crossed the finish line in fifth place.

Olivia Evans paced a quintet of Trojans in the women's 3,000 meter finals in a time of 10:53.32 and finished in 10th place, while Martha Coleman finished 13th in a time of 10:56.35. Melea Sangl (11:03.30), Hannah Beach (11:24.35) and Emily Olson (12:04.99) finished 17th, 20th and 25th, respectively.

The Trojan women's 4x400 meter relay team, consisting of Katharine Landry, Osterbind, Lydia Gambrell and Madison finished ninth in a time of 4:15.04.

JoLyn Copeland posted a distance of 11.11 meters in the women's shot put and finished ninth, while Landry (10.19 meters) captured 17th place and Regan Appleby notched 19th place with a toss of 10.13 meters.

Philip Quillen finished ninth in the the men's 3,000 meters in a time of 9:00.48, with teammate Thomas Sutcliffe notching 19th place in a time of 9:17.29. Noah Mclain claimed 23rdplace in a time of 9:27.03.

The men's 4x400 meter relay squad, made up of Robert Jones, Cameron Owens-Hunter, Matthew Hobbs and Jordan Anderson finished 11th in a time of 3:35.97.

Anthony Aleruchi claimed 23rd in the men's shot put with a toss of 11.70 meters, while Connor Wheatley was just behind in 24th place with a distance of 11.54 meters. Scott Sanford (10.62 meters) and Evan Francis (10.31 meters) finished 27th and 28th, respectively, with Robert Jones claiming 30th oplace with a distance of 8.87 meters.

The Trojans are slated to open their outdoor season on March 15 at the 49er Classic.
