Tennis Earns National Recognitions

TEMPE, Ariz. The Anderson University men's tennis team has been slotted No. 34 nationally while junior Ignacio Bidegain, Spencer Brown and Adam Kush and women's tennis senior Laura Dean has earned national ranking in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association/Oracle Collegiate National Rankings.

The computerized rankings publish the Top 50 men's and women's teams. ITA member coaches have access to the unpublished rankings (teams outside the Top 50). Prior to the shift to computerized rankings, a national rankings panel voted on the Top 25 teams.

The No. 34th ranked Trojans finished the 2019 season with a 13-8 overall and 6-4 South Atlantic Conference record. The Black and Gold finished 5th in the SAC regular season standing while making it to conference semifinal round.

Bidegain compiled an overall record of 19-5 and a 10-4 SAC mark at the No. 1 singles flight for the Trojans was ranked as high as No. 15 in the nation, before the latest No. 30 position. The native of Buenos Aires earned All-SAC First Team Honors for his stellar play.

Brown and Kush posted 14-7 overall and 6-6 conference record and is currently ranked as the No. 22 doubles tandem in the nation. The No. 1 duo for the Trojans, have been ranked as high as No. 9 with wins over the No. 1 ranked doubles team from Columbus State and a 6-1 victory over the No. 15th ranked team from Queens.

Women's tennis senior Dean posted a 15-5 overall and 7-3 SAC record to break into the top-100 with a No. 75 ranking. The native of Georgetown, S.C. defeated the 45th ranked player in the country, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-0, from USC Aiken. Dean's solid play also landed her on the SAC Second Team singles and doubles.

About the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings  
As the governing body of college tennis, the ITA administers the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings that are designed to track the top men's and women's teams, along with singles and doubles players in NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, Junior Colleges and California Junior Colleges.

The AU men's team has also been ranked No. 10 in the latest NCAA DII Men's Tennis Regional Rankings, just out of reach to make the NCAA Tournament.
