Trojans Knock off Lincoln Memorial, Claim Third Straight Win

HARROGATE, Tenn. - With five victories in the singles portion, Anderson University women's tennis notched a 7-2 South Atlantic Conference road victory over Lincoln Memorial Saturday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Complex.

With the victory, the Trojans jump to 9-3 on the season and increase their winning streak to three straight matches, while the Lady Railsplitters fall to 2-5 on the year with a 0-4 mark in league play.

To open the match, the duo of Ivey Welborn and Rebecca Bruning tallied a 9-8 (7-5) victory over LMU's Elena Vasilyeva and Gemma Goodland at the No. 1 position, while AU's Mairead Cleary and Alexander Ebner posted an 8-2 triumph over Summer Robinson and Angelica Solano at the No. 2 positon to secure a lead on the scoreboard heading into the singles round.

The wins continued in singles action, as Bruning remained perfect against conference opponents with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Goodland at No. 2, while Cleary added another singles win with a retirement from Lincoln Memorial's Priscilla Bulandres at the No. 3 position. Ebner made her afternoon a perfect one with a three-set 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 win over Roksolana Prudyvus at No. 4, while Lindsay Gregory defeated Robinson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5.

Rounding out the singles portion, Nikkola Wichenko knocked off Solano 6-0, 4-0 at the No. 6 slot.

Anderson looks to continue its winning ways on Tuesday when it hits the road to Newberry to close a stretch of five straight conference road contests. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
