Trojans Earn Road Win at USC Aiken; 2-1

Aiken, S.C. - Anderson women's soccer earned a road win, 2-1, at USC Aiken on Wednesday evening at Pacer Pit.

With the win, the Trojans move to 1-1 on the season, while the Pacers drop to 0-3 overall.

After a scoreless first half, USC Aiken scored first just inside the 62nd minute of action off of a free kick.

The Trojans wasted no time evening the score at, 1-1, scoring just 20 seconds later. Junior Cassidy Wheaton placed a ball up the left side connecting with junior Gabbie Fleming. Fleming's shot from roughly 10 yards out found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

The Black and Gold struck again in the 80th minute when senior Bethany Morgan found junior Kirsten Armetta's foot, with Armetta putting the ball away to score the game-winner and her first goal of the year.

Anderson outshot the Pacers 16(7) - 8( 5) with each team taking six corner kicks apiece.

AU'S Madison Paige recorded four saves, picking up her first career win as a Trojan.

USC Aiken's keeper Reese McCormick was credited with five saves on the evening.

"I was proud of the effort and resolve the team showed tonight, said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "They followed the game plan and controlled much of the match. The girls responded well to getting scored on, and we are happy to get a win on the road!"
