Trojans Fall to Emmanuel; 2-1

Greenville, S.C. - Anderson women's soccer drops it season opener to Conference Carolinas opponent Emmanuel, 2-1, on Saturday evening at Legacy Early College Field.

With the loss, the Trojans fall to 1-0 on the season, while the Lions move to 1-0 overall.

Anderson struck first in the fifth minute of the first half when sophomore Erin Cepeda connected with freshman Kendall Simpson. Simpson chipped in Cepeda pass from five yards out.

The Lions answered back in the ninth minute after Lochlain Corliss punched in the long pass from teammate Cynthia Gonzalez.

Emmanuel's Lindsay Lee scored the game-winner in the 52 minute of action. Lee received a pass off the foot of Sam Hedges kicking it over the keeper to push ahead, 2-1.

The Lions outshot the Trojans 9-7 and took four corner kicks to Anderson's zero.

AU'S Madison Paige recorded three saves.

The Lions keeper Hannah Welch was credited with three saves.

COACHES CORNER

"The game had many swings in momentum and our team had some great moments of potential", said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "Unfortunately we did not play with consistent energy or create enough opportunities in the attack. We will regroup and get back to work this week in preparation for our next game."
