ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer used the momentum from riding a three-match win streak to help force overtime and an eventual come from behind win over South Atlantic Conference foe Queens, 2-1, pushing its win streak to four on Wednesday evening at Trojan Stadium.
With the win, Anderson moves to 4-4 overall and 4-0 in SAC play while Queens falls to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in conference action. The Trojans also defeated the Royals for the first time in program history while moving to 4-0 in SAC action for the first time since joining the conference in 2010.
The Royals struck first in the 17th minute of action on a high kick that deflected off the fingertips of Anderson's Abby Helm.
Anderson scored the equalizer in the 70th minute on senior Alexis Hartert's well placed free kick. Junior Bethany Morgan connected with the pass and pushed the ball past the keeper from close range.
The Trojans were all around the goal putting up 19 shots with 11 coming on goal. Queens got off 16 shots with five coming on goal while holding the corner kick advantage 8-2.
In the waning seconds of the first overtime, freshman Maggie Black got off a short shot that hit the crossbar. Sophomore Annie Kate Hodge was able to chip in the rebound for her first career goal.
AU's Helm recorded three saves on the evening while Queens Rachel Quest was credited with nine saves in the loss.
Anderson will travel to SAC powerhouse Carson-Newman on Saturday. The SAC showdown is set to kick-off at 5 p.m.
