Women’s Soccer Picked Seventh in SAC Preseason Poll

 

ROCK HILL, S.C - Anderson University women's soccer has been predicted to finish seventh in the South Atlantic Conference Preseason Coach's Poll announced by the league office on Monday.

The Trojans are coming off of a 6-9-2 overall record and 5-5 league mark reaching the SAC semifinals for the third straight year. Anderson returns 22 players and among those are 10 seniors.Carson-Newman has been selected as the favorite to win the 2018 SAC

Championship, earning 10 first place votes and a total of 110 points. Queens finished second with 98 total points. Wingate was predicted to finish third earning a first place vote while Lenoir-Rhyne captured the fourth spot. Tusculum rounded out the top five with 73 total points while Catawba claimed the seventh slot with 58 points. Anderson collected 53 points placing the Trojans in the seventh slot. Lincoln Memorial tallied 46 points placing the Railsplitters in the eighth position. Newberry, Mars Hill and Coker rounded out the 2018 SAC Preseason Poll.

The preseason first and second team selections were released today with Anderson senior Megan Foster and sophomore Melanie Maddox earning a spot on the second team.

Both Foster and Maddox play a vital role from the midfield position. Foster, a native of Dayton, Ohio made 14 starts last season while logging over 800 minutes for the Trojans and provides valuable leadership to the Black and Gold. Foster was an All-SAC Honorable Mention selection following her freshman campaign in 2015.

Maddox, a native of Midlothian, Va. made 16 starts while scoring one goal which was a game-winner and tacking on an assist. Maddox was an All-SAC Tournament selection following her freshman year in 2016 while earning All-SAC Honorable Mention following the 2017 season.

Anderson will open its 2018 campaign on August 30th when it host Georgia College. Kick-off is slated for 5 p.m.
