Women’s Soccer Signs Seven for 2018 Season

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University women's soccer program is looking to build off of a 2017 season where the Trojans team advanced to the postseason for the sixth time in seven seasons. The Black and Gold finished the season with an overall record of 6-9-2 and advanced to the semifinal round of the South Atlantic Conference Championship. The 2018 signing class features seven future Trojans who will look to make an immediate impact for the 2018 fall season.

The Black and Gold welcome: Maggie Black (Pendleton, S.C./Pendleton High School), Taylor Campbell (Kennesaw, Ga./North Cobb High School), Brooke Penedo (Anderson, S.C./T.L. Hanna High School), Emily Feyerabend (Woodstock, Ga./Sequoyah High School), Jade Myers (Mason, Ohio/William Mason High School), Marissa Mowry (Cartersville, Ga./Cartersville High School) and Bailey Will (Saluda, S.C./Saluda High School), to the team for the upcoming campaign.

Reasons why Anderson University was chosen: "I chose Anderson University because it is a Christian learning environment with strong academics. I believe I will be able to grow as a Christian and as an athlete as I prepare for my future." 

Carlson on Black: "Maggie is a strong and hardworking athlete. Her game has really developed this last year along with her leadership ability and tactical understanding in the back line. She is strong in the air, hard into a tackle and has great ball composure."

Reasons why Anderson University was chosen: "I am impressed with the Christian environment, Nursing program and the Athletic department. I like the size of the school and how friendly they are. Anderson is a great fit!"

Carlson on Campbell: "Taylor's speed, work ethic and competitiveness will make her valuable asset in wide areas. She has great upside and great range of passing ability out of the back."

Reasons why Anderson University was chosen: "I love the soccer program - the girls, coaches and atmosphere. I also love the school itself - the academics, the location, and the Christian aspect of it - and I couldn't see myself going anywhere else."

Carlson on Feyerabend: "Emily is a powerful dominant forward with great feet. She has a great feel in and around the 18 yard box that makes her dangerous. She is great at interchanging with other attacking players and has good creativity in the final third."

Reasons why Anderson University was chosen: "I just felt at home when I was there. I love the team and the girls and it's an amazing program and school where I feel I can grow my walk with God."

Carlson on Mowry: "Marissa has a lot of upside. She is a solid athlete with good awareness. She has good shooting range and ability to find players in behind."

Reasons why Anderson University was chosen: "I chose Anderson because of the welcoming environment. I absolutely love how friendly and welcoming everyone is and how comfortable the team made me feel. I also love how Christianity is such a huge part of everything at Anderson. I love to share my love for God and I feel that Anderson will be a great place to do so." 

Carlson on Myers: "Jade is quick and crafty. She has great finishing instincts in a variety of areas. She will be instrumental in pressing and being an attacking threat centrally and wide."

Carlson on Penedo: "Brooke is a very quick, technical player that finds crafty ways around players and see the field well. She is a versatile midfielder that can be effective in transitional moments."

Carlson on Will: "Bailey is an intelligent player. She will be instrumental in our central areas with her vision and technical ability to allows to be better in possession."
