Herbert Earns South Atlantic Conference Women’s Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson University senior women's soccer player Kristin Herbert has been selected as the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year, an award which recognizes excellence in athletics, academics, service and leadership.

The SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards are presented to one male and one female student-athlete in each of the conference's 18 championship sports. The awards are voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee.

Herbert is the first student-athlete from Anderson University to receive the SAC Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Herbert holds a perfect 4.0 GPA in Biochemistry.

"Kristin is an exceptional student and her commitment to her academics has been her top priority since her arrival to Anderson University," said head coach Julie Davis Carlson. "She is terrific recipient of this achievement and will represent our institution and our conference with utmost commitment to her medical field of research. Kristin has huge aspirations of medical school post grad and she looks to make significant medical impacts in remote areas of the world. Kristin's leadership, service and commitment to her team, her university and to her peers is one the best I have seen in my time as a coach. Kristin excels in all components in her life and has been one of our best in every category within our program academically, athletically and as a captain."

Herbert's additional academic accolades include selections to the Anderson University Dean's List, Presidential Scholarship, Honors Program, Gamma Beta Phi, SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll and SAC Elite 20 Award.

Most recently, Herbert was named to the CoSida Academic All-District Team, CoSida Academic All-America Team and to the NSCAA Senior College Scholar All-Region Team.

The senior captain, played in 13 matches while starting in 11 for the Black and Gold. The native of Arlington, VA., helped anchor the backline that helped produce six clean sheets and a second straight trip to the SAC Championship semifinals.

Herbert has served with numerous organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Georgetown Hospital, Make-A-Wish and Gama Beta Phi of Anderson University (VP). The senior Biochemistry major also served on the Leadership Council at Anderson University and spent last summer volunteering in Paraguay.
