Women’s Soccer Falls in Overtime to North Georgia; 2-1

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer could not hold to its early 1-0 lead falling to nonconference opponent North Georgia Wednesday evening at Trojan Stadium.

With the loss, Anderson falls to 1-2-1 on the season while the Nighthawks improve to 2-1-2.

The Trojans jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on junior Lauren Allan's fifth minute goal. Anderson was able to get off five more shots during the half, however none found the back of the net.

North Georgia outshot the Trojans 9-5 in the first 45 minutes with the Black and Gold holding the slight advantage in corner kicks, 4-2.

After the second half whistle blew, the Nighthawks went on a shooting barrage firing off 11 straight shots. North Georgia's Payton Bisso scored the equalizer in the 69 minute on the 16th shot of the half. The Trojans were able to fend off the final five shots by North Georgia to extend the match into overtime.

Anderson's junior Abby Helm recorded 14 saves on the night with eight coming in the second half of play. Helm added two more in overtime before Olivia Dumphy was able to follow Renee VanHorn's shot attempt and kick it into the back of the net from close range for the game-winner.

The Trojans will begin South Atlantic Conference play when they travel to Wingate on Saturday. Kick-off is slated for 5 pm.
