Women's Soccer Releases 2017 Schedule

ANDERSON, S.C. - After advancing to the South Atlantic Conference semifinals for the third straight season, the expectations are even higher in 2017 as Anderson University women's soccer coach Julie Davis Carlson has released her 2017 schedule.

The 2016 squad finished sixth in the SAC while advancing to the conference semifinals for the third straight year. The Trojans finished the season with a 9-6-2 overall record and posted a 6-4-1 record in league play.

The 2017 women's soccer schedule features six non-conference matches, including first time opponents Missouri-St. Louis, Lynn and UNC Pembroke and 10 conference matches.

Carson-Newman shared the SAC regular season title while winning the SAC tournament championship. The Trojans narrowly loss to Carson-Newman (1-0, OT) during regular season play while being eliminated by the Eagles from the SAC tournament in the semifinals. The Black and Gold are set to square off with the defending champions on Sept. 30 at Trojan Stadium.

Davis Carlson on the upcoming season: "The 2017 schedule is very competitive and has a great layout for our team's preparation going into the SAC. It was designed to be challenging yet accomplishable to gain regional and national recognition as long as the results play out in our favor. We play two NCAA top ranked teams with Missouri-St. Louis (#5 Midwest Region) at the Barton Classic and #13 North Georgia. We will also face difficult opposition with Lynn University and UNC-Pembroke (#4 Southeast Region) who have both been very successful and been to the NCAA tournament. This will give us great in site preparing the SAC as well as prepare physically and mentally. We have a very strong squad returning and a very strong recruiting class to rebuild our offensive threat. The expectations for this team are very high. Our goal is to return to the SAC semi-finals and advance to the finals in hopes to advance as SAC Champions or be regionally ranked high enough to put ourselves in a position to get an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. The talent is there. The experience is there. The belief of our players is there."
