WALLACE, N.C. – Using a 5-over-par 149 from sophomore Anna Freeman, the Anderson women's golf team is in fourth place following Monday's opening rounds of the 2019 Sunoco Campbell Oil Classic.
The two-day, 54-hole event is being hosted by UNC Pembroke on a par-72, 5,812 River Landing Golf Club layout.
In a field that includes four top-30 teams, the host Braves have a comfortable nine-stroke lead over second-place and 26th-ranked Carson-Newman, while Wingate (No. 29) is two shots further back in third place. The 23rd-ranked Trojans, who are bidding for their second-straight tournament championship and fifth title of the year, are in fourth place, with No. 27 Lenoir-Rhyne deadlocked in fifth place, alongside Catawba.
Mount Olive is in seventh place entering Tuesday's final round, while Queens, Erskine, Merrimack, Mars Hill, Southern New Hampshire, Stonehill and Sandhills Community College round out the 14-team field.
UNC Pembroke's Katy Flax (70-71=141) holds a two-shot lead over both Catawba's Kaley Barts (70-73=143) and Merrimack's Krystal Knight (71-72=143) following the first two rounds. UNCP's Alexandria Bare is alone in fourth place following an even-par 144.
Freeman is tied for 13th place, while junior Kate Hill is just one stroke further back and shares 15th place. Freshman Victoria Hall carded a 7-over-par 151 and shares 19th place entering Tuesday's final round. Senior Tiffany Elam is tied for 21st place, with freshman Kerington Lamb tied for 29th place.
Tuesday's third and final round is slated to get underway at 8:30 a.m.
