23rd-Ranked Women’s Golf Set for Sunoco Campbell Oil Classic

ANDERSON, S.C. – Just a week after claiming its fourth tournament championship of the year, the 23rd-ranked Anderson University women's golf team is scheduled to compete in the Sunoco Campbell Oil Classic, which is being hosted by UNC Pembroke at the River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, N.C.

Last week, senior Tiffany Elam paced five Trojans who posted top-20 finishes by bringing home her first tournament title of the year when she won the Coker Invitational to lead AU to the team championship. The native of Alpharetta, Ga., fired a two-day, 2-over-par 146, as the Trojans won the tourney by three shots over the host Cobras.

Junior Kate Hill finished the Coker Invitational in a tie for ninth place, with freshman Kerrington Lamb finishing in a tie for 14th, alongside classmate Victoria Hall. Sophomore Anna Freeman finished in a four-way tie for 16th, with seniors Samantha Ellison and Makalyn Poole each finishing in a tie for 42nd place.

A year ago, Elam made a late run to claim sixth place and paced AU to a fourth-place finish at the Sunoco Campbell Oil Classic, with Freeman claiming a share of eighth place last year. Hill took home 12th place, while Ellison finished in a tie for 48th.

Elam has notched five top-10 finishes this year and owns the team's low stroke average (75.93) while competing in all seven tournaments. Hill has a 76.64 stroke average and posted the squad's low round of the year with a 68 in the second round of last September's AU Invitational, when the Clemson, S.C., native earned a two-stroke victory over Freeman for individual medalist honors. Hall has recorded a 77.00 stroke average through seven tourneys and owns three top-10 finishes. Freeman has finished in the top-10 in three tournaments and has recorded a 77.14 stroke average.
