Women’s Golf Finishes Second at Battle at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – With freshman Victoria Hall and senior Tiffany Elam each claiming a top-five finish, the Anderson University women's golf team finished second among a strong field at the Battle at Hilton Head, Tuesday at the 5,934 yard, par-72 Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort.

Florida Tech (297-299=596) held off the Trojans (305-304=609) to win the team title by 13 shots. Carson-Newman (308-308=616) remained in third place, seven strokes further back, with Columbus State (310-315=625) holding onto fourth place. Lenoir-Rhyne (315-314=629) moved up to fifth and Tusculum (319-312=631) vaulted from a share of seventh place to alone in the sixth slot. Rogers State (319-319=638) finished seventh, with Missouri-St. Louis (316-326=642) claiming the eighth slot. Henderson State (324-320=644) and Lincoln Memorial (330-314=644) shared ninth place and Converse (325-323=648) wrapped up the two-day event in 11th place.

Mount Olive (325-325=650), King (331-322=653), Queens (326-330=656), Barton (330-329), Merrimack (334-340=674), Davenport (338-336=674), Belmont Abbey (343-333=676), Southern Wesleyan (342-340=682), Southern New Hampshire (347-348=695) and Chowan (418-389=807) rounded out the 21-team field.

Florida Tech's Lucy Eaton (145) moved up from a tie for third to win individual medalist honors by one shot over teammate Lauren Watson. Rogers State's Jess Whitting (147) was one stroke further back in third.

Hall trimmed four strokes off Monday's opening round and jumped from a share of 13th place into fourth place with a two-day, 4-over-par 148. Elam carded a 5-over-par 149 and shared fifth place, while junior Kate Hill slashed five strokes off Monday's first-round 78 and vaulted from a share of 24th place to finish tied for ninth with a two-round 151. Freshman Kerrington Lamb posted a two-day 161 and shared 37th place, with sophomore Anna Freeman claiming a share of 53rd place after carding a 165 over the two days.

The Trojans are scheduled to get back on the links Monday at the Low Country Invitational in Bluffton, S.C.
